Collection

It is the intent of the National Architectural Arts Center to become the most all-encompassing repository of American architectural artifacts in the country. While the collection is already the largest in the country, it is not fully national in scope. Selective acquisition will fill gaps and strengthen the value of the collection by seeking comprehensive and representative samples that serve to document the changing materials, aesthetics, and construction technologies that affected American architecture.

There currently is no national repository to which people can donate architectural artifacts unless they are prime examples of the most prominent architects, craftsmen, or manufacturers. By having a professional first-class storage and conservation facility and expanding priorities for collecting, we anticipate that many significant smaller collections around the country will be donated to the museum because of its mission and its ability to care for the items. Other objects will have to be purchased to supplement the current collection.

We believe that within five years of completion of the facility, the collection will consist of more than 500,000 items.
